What is the procedure for taking PA Speakers out of winter storage?
Here is a 3-point plan for taking speakers out of storage. Moisture is our enemy.
- Visual Inspection
- Check for condensation, mould or rodent activity.
- Inspect connectors, cables and ports for corrosion and rigidity.
- Ensure ports and vents are clean and clear of restrictions.
- If you see dust or dirt, clean it away gently.
- Consider using an airline to blow dust away gently.
- Internal Checks
- Open the front grill and inspect for visible damage.
- Spread fingers and gently press on the paper cone for unrestricted movement.
- Remove the back panel and remove and remake all connections.
- Tighten all bolts, fixings, screws and mounts. Drivers on the diagonal.
- Powering on
- Condition the speakers for 24 hours at 19 Degrees Celsius (room temperature).
- Test resistance with a multi-meter to ensure proper continuity.
- Start at low volume and listen for distortion, rattling, or missing frequencies.
- Check for buzzing, distortion, or imbalances between speakers.
- Ensure horns, tweeters, and subs are all functioning correctly.
